Christmas in St Ives

Christmas in St Ives got off to a chilly but jovial start on Friday 3rd December when a crowd gathered around the Christmas Tree outside the Guildhall to sing Christmas Carols, with true Christmas cheer added by the St Ives Concert Band. An assortment of pirates joined in with the pirate theme for the evening, with two lucky children winning the fancy dress competition and all ‘pirates’ leaving with a prize!  On the cue of Town Mayor Yvonne Watson, the gathered children called out the magic word and abracadabra the lights of the tree twinkled to life.

Hot on the heels of the lights switch-on there was delight on faces all round as Santa appeared from a puff of smoke and beckoned to everyone to join his Yo Ho Ho Parade through the town - taking in a mix of pirates, carols, hot chocolate and finishing with Santa being walked to his grotto at the Glass Tree by the Christmas Fairy from Fabulous Kids!

St Ives Mayor, Yvonne Watson, stated that she was absolutely thrilled that so many people braved the cold to join in with the evening’s events - especially the children who she hoped had enjoyed a truly magical Christmas evening.
