Cornwall scooped three British Travel Awards at a glittering Awards ceremony held on 2 November 2011. Cornwall was named ‘Best UK Holiday County or Region’ for the third year and St Ives was again named the ‘Best UK Seaside Town’, with the Eden Project coming away with ‘Best UK Leisure Attraction’.
The announcements were made on 2 November at a glamorous gala awards dinner held at Battersea Evolution in London, attended by more than a thousand representatives from the travel industry. As well as the award presentations the audience enjoyed a full evening of entertainment, including one of Britain’s most sought-after award ceremony hosts and reconteurs, the inimitable Gyles Brandreth.
Suzanne Bond, Chief Executive of Cornwall Development Company (CDC) and Boards Member of Visit Cornwall said: “I am immensely pound that Cornwall has again been recognised at a nation level. To win at both county and town level is a huge achievement and the fact that the Awards are based on public opinion make them even more significant”.
Malcolm Bell, Head of Tourism at CDC said “This is the third time in a row that Cornwall has come out on top in the British Travel Awards, which proves that the county is leading the way and offering the quality holiday experience that visitors demand. The Awards give real creditability to the promotion of Cornwall as a visitor destination and there is significant leverage to be enjoyed from the publicity that a national award such as this brings”.
