Following the launch last week of the branch new St Ives Visitor and Information Centre, there has been enthusiasm shown for the venture by members, advertisers, visitors and the staff. The centre has certainly proved a success in terms of accommodation bookings made, satisfied customers and growing membership numbers.
Amongst advertisers in the Visitor and Information Centre are restaurants, galleries, taxi companies and tours (walking tours, coach trips and boat trips). There have already been thousands of people through the doors, all looking for guidance on where to stay, where to eat and what to do.
Details of how to become a member for accommodation providers), or an advertiser (for other businesses) are available on the visit St Ives page on this website and will be available from the new St Ives Visitor and Information Centre website in the near future.
The Visitor and Information Centre is run on the principle of keeping cost to a minimum and enabling visitors to browse and find the information they seek. A number of town councillors and other willing volunteers have also been helping over the past week, adding a more personal welcome to tourists. Town Mayor, Councillor Ton Tulley has put in a number of days at the Visitor and Information Centre and is enthusiastic about how enjoyable it has been saying “helping at the Visitor and Information Centre has given me an opportunity to meet an interesting cross-section of visitors and to use my local knowledge to help them make the most of their visit to St Ives”.
The Visitor and Information Centre will be building up a group of volunteers to help to continue to give an excellent service and to be a satisfying and enjoying way for people to give their time to help others and to help the local area as a whole.
